Bob Tanem who is the guidng voice for Bay Area gardeners as host of KSFO radio's
"Bob Tanem in the Garden" has come out with a pair of practical back-pocket guides geared specifically to Northern California
gardeners.
"Annuals for Northern California"and "Perennials for Northern California" (Lone Pine
Publishing $18.95) condense it down the the essentials.
Tanem said it's been a quarter-century since good books on annuals and perennials
were published specifially for Northern California. Most books give a scattershot, nationwide approach. And with 80,000
varieties of perennials on the market, gardeners can feel overwhelmed.
The books are colorful quick reference guides for identification, cultivation,
pest control and important specifications to help for planning your plantings.
Tanem weeds down the choices to 519 perennials and 110 Annuals, all suited to Northern
California and easily available.
Tanem, whose show airs from 7 to 10 a.m. Sundays, recently won a Garden Glove
Award from the garden Writers Association of America for best radio show.
